Abolition of Public Prosecutors’ Office

written from S. Korea( Republic of Korea )

It was recently announced that Public Prosecutors’ Office is going to be abolished as of September next year, which shocked rightists in S. Korea.

Public Prosecutors’ Office plays important roles to maintain the society safe from criminals and offenders while investigating crimes and prosecuting suspects.

Days have to go back to Moon Jae-in regime when the ruling party(더불어민주당 : Together Democratic Party – but actually generally called as Together Communist Party by numerous rightists) made Public Prosecutors’ Office deprived of investigation right, so that it cannot reach out to drug investigations in the country. As a result, drug issues have become prevailing in the country even among teens. S. Korea had been very safe from drugs before the matter.

Today as Lee jjai-ming and the ruling party regained power again from the conservative party(국민의힘 : People Power Party), they are retrying to take away rights from Public Prosecutors’ Office. This time their goal is more severe. They are going to delete the office, and then delete their criminal charges as well.

As I mentioned before in the previous writing, Lee jjai-ming has 4 criminal records and still has judicial risks which are 12 charges and are about 5 ongoing trials (suspended while his presidential term). In this regard, when Public Prosecutors’ Office is closed, is possible to maintain the indictments relating to Lee? Maybe not!

Joo Jin-woo, a member of the conservative party asked the director of the Ministry of Public Administrations and Security a few basic questions about JoongSu-Cheong(중대범죄수사청 : Serious Crime Investigation Office) and Gongso-cheong(공소기능전담청 : Indictment Office) which are going to be newly established when Public Prosecutors’ Office is closed. However, the director couldn’t answer most of the questions because he didn’t know yet anything about the new offices. It is assumed that no one knows the exact laws relating to the offices because Lee and the ruling party rushes to stop Public Prosecutors’ Office which is for the nation’s people and helping them safe, and thus they have not gotten through proper and detailed legislation. The director failed to answer about personnel, budget, and procedure regarding to the new offices.
